Om arrangementet
Have you inherited a bunad from Norway, or have you crossed the ocean to obtain your own bunad from the region of your Norwegian heritage? What does the national folk costume of Norway mean to you? Join us for Maren Mecham’s presentation on the history and meaning of bunader and other folk costumes in Norway, including how these important cultural textiles have been interpreted and used here in the United States.
Maren Mecham is the Norwegian language instructor at Brigham Young University and holds a BFA and MA. She spent a year and half making her own bunad from the Tinn region of Telemark. You are encouraged to wear or bring your bunad, or any part of a Norwegian folk costume you might have, for the discussion following Ms. Mecham’s remarks.
As always, an RSVP is encouraged but not required. Also, we welcome Norwegian or Scandinavian treats to share after the presentation.
