Leadership opportunities
Looking to apply your time and talents to a worthy cause? The Leif Erikson chapter is growing and our leadership needs to grow with it, so we are opening several new leadership positions. As a leader in Sons of Norway, you will be able to share your love for Norwegian culture and contribute to our community through cultural, social, and service activities.
Below are descriptions of all leadership positions available. If you are interested, fill out the form at the bottom of the page to let us know how you'd like to serve as a leader in the Leif Erikson chapter. Or, recommend someone you know who you believe would be able to contribute.
Officer and director positions
Leaders must be members of Sons of Norway, should be able to attend monthly events planned by Leif Erikson Chapter 6-83, and participate in regular leadership meetings. Leaders are not paid for their time but are allowed reimbursement for expenses related to their official duties.
President
The President is responsible for the overall success of the chapter, as measured by membership growth, attendance at events, and relations with the central Sons of Norway organization. The president is responsible for holding regular leadership meetings and ensuring our events are in harmony with the mission of Sons of Norway.
Treasurer
The Treasurer oversees all chapter finances and is responsible for keeping accurate accounts of the receipts and disbursements of the chapter, filing 990 forms and other tax-related forms, and collecting and depositing income of the chapter.
Social Director
The Social Director is responsible for planning social activities and quality programs to enhance the sense of enjoyment, excitement, commitment, and community with the lodge. The Social Director collaborates with the Cultural Director to plan monthly events.
Vice President
The Vice President is responsible for leading chapter recruitment efforts and strategies while helping develop programming that encourages member retention. The Vice President also acts on behalf of the President when directed or when the President is absent.
Membership Secretary
The Membership Secretary is responsible for ensuring new members of Sons of Norway as well as new users of the SonsOfNorwayUtah.org website are warmly welcomed. The Membership Secretary also greets participants at events, gathers contact information from those who attend, and collaborates with the Vice President to encourage membership and outreach.
Communications Director
The Communications Director is responsible for maintaining the SonsOfNorwayUtah.org website and social media accounts and for communicating with members and friends of Leif Erikson chapter about upcoming events.
Secretary
The Secretary is responsible for managing the daily operations of the chapter, including writing and maintaining the minutes of the chapter and, if requested, assist with any other correspondence and reports required of the chapter. Responsible for scheduling regular leadership meetings and managing the agenda for these meetings.
Cultural Director
The Cultural Director is responsible for planning activities to help members and community develop a lasting appreciation for the culture of Norway. The Cultural Director also manages the Cultural Skills Program and collaborates with the Social Director to plan monthly events.
Sons of Norway Foundation Director
The Sons of Norway Foundation Director is responsible for increasing members' awareness of the Sons of Norway Foundation and its value while promoting the Foundation to members and the community and helping it grow financially.
