Julebakst (Christmas Baking)

We will be carrying on the tradition of julebakst, or Christmas baking, when Norwegian households start making the many cookies, cakes, and other treats necessary to the season. Come share your skills--and learn new ones--as we "cookie up" for the Christmas season. We will be making krumkaker, kransekake, brunepinner, rosetter, fattigman, berlinerkranser, and sandbakkels. If you have a krumkakerjern, rosette irons, kransekake pans, or other gear, please bring them, as well as any Norwegian family recipes you'd like to share.

This is a great event for all ages, so please invite your children, grandchildren, neighbors, and friends!

Baking not your thing? Why not learn how to make traditional heart baskets and Froebel Stars (aka Nordic Stars, Moravian Stars, Pennsylvania Dutch Stars, etc.)? We'll have tables set up and paper ready to make your own beautiful stars--perfect as ornaments for your Christmas tree or in place of bows on packages.
