The first Scandinavian Christmas Market at BYU was a smashing success! We were able to talk to many students and families about the scholarships and grants available from the Sons of Norway Foundation and enjoy the festive (and crowded) atmosphere inside the Joseph F. Smith Building courtyard.
More than double the estimated number of attendees showed up to sample Scandinavian treats and entertainment from vendors like these:
Grandma's Norwegian Lefse
Fordham Guitars
Blacksmith Demonstrations
Special thanks to Heather and Natalie and their crew at BYU Continuing Education Events. They put on a wonderful market, with beautifully decorated tents and signage for each vendor, as well as a wonderful package of entertainment that included Scandinavian dancing, Norwegian Hardanger fiddle performances--even a Norwegian halling dance (see video below)! So well done--everyone we talked to wants to do this again next year.
While at the market, Sons of Norway showed the presentation below highlighting the 17 scholarships available to students from the Sons of Norway Foundation. We also promoted our "student membership" for students who would like to join Sons of Norway and deepen their appreciation for Norwegian culture.
