Vikings and Sloopers and Explorers--oh my!

Many thanks to the Vikings of Utah Historical Group and the fantastic work they do to share their knowledge of authentic Viking age history and artifacts. We were treated to demonstrations of Viking textiles, clothing, and jewelry; leather work, armor, and weaponry; musical instruments; and forging tools. We even had a special treat: the famous ancient Norse Skaldic song composed by Egill Skallagrímsson known as My Mother Told Me and performed on tagelharpa and drum (see video below).

We also celebrated the arrival of the sloop Restauration in New York harbor just a few hours earlier on Thursday afternoon. Crown Prince Haakon of Norway was in New York to greet the Restauration, so the event was covered in the Norwegian media (starting at 7:22).
